Vlacir
The Story
The story for this one is simple. At the time I made this project, I was interested in making planets. I think space is so cool, and planets are genuinely masterpieces of Creation, so why not learn how to make one? Plus, I was needing some practice in Blender, so this was a good way to refine those skills.
I watched some tutorials, mixed them together, and added some outside knowledge to make the planet you see now, Vlacir.
Vlacir is a deadly planet, one that humans are incapable of living on. It resides close to its star, causing it to be unbearably hot. Due to this, the surface is primarily made of dry land, making most of the planet a sandy and barren wasteland. The thing that makes this planet unique, however, is its interconnected rivers and lakes made of a lucidly glowing acidic liquid. This liquid doesn't seem to be affected by the heat of the sun very much, meaning there is minimal evaporation. While the evaporation is very little, there is enough to create a light, acidic atmosphere.
The Process
The process for this one was also very simple. This was made using simple geometry (icospheres for the planet and atmosphere) and procedural textures using Blender's shading graph.
The Result
Overall, this was a very enjoyable project, and I like the way the planet turned out in the end. This got me much more comfortable with Blender's shader graph, and helped me to understand how great procedural texturing really is.
